St. Stephen's Episcopal Church Oak Harbor

By God's Grace, All Are Welcome

Holy Week 2021

Thursday, April 1, 7 PM, on Facebook and YouTube

Maundy Thursday led by the Rev's. Amy Donohue and William Seth Adams. Maundy Thursday Service is an evening service at 7pm. This year the service will be available on Facebook and YouTube. The Maundy Thursday Service will be offered in two videos. Links to both will be sent to you in the morning on April 1.     .

  • In Video 1, we will read two stories that inform our evening observance, one from Paul's first letter to the Corinthians and one from the Gospel of John. We will hear a brief meditation on these readings.

  • In Video 2 we will offer prayers and then wash each others feet. To participate fully, please have available the BCP p. 274, a basin of water and a couple of towels. A pause in the video will provide for washing of feet in your individual households. After the foot washing, release the pause button and resume video 2 . To conclude, we with pray a collect, and offer a blessing.

Friday, April 2, 7 PM, by Zoom

Good Friday Stations of the Cross, led by the Reverend Diana Peters. The Stations of the Cross service is frequently experienced on Good Friday to commemorate Jesus’ arrest, condemnation, passion and death on the cross. People “take up their cross” and follow Jesus on his walk to Golgotha on the Friday before his death. We will “walk” this path with Jesus as we gather on Zoom, Friday, 4/2/21 at 7:00 p.m. The movement from station will be effectively portrayed as we move from station to station, thanks to families virtually bringing us into their homes and relating each station’s events. Join us for this powerful opportunity to walk with Jesus to the cross, so we can more authentically participate in his Day of Resurrection on Easter Sunday. Links for Zoom will be sent in the morning April 2.

Saturday, April 3, 7 PM by Zoom

Great Vigil of Easter, led by the Rev. Mary Green. Each household is asked to provide their own Paschal candle to be lit during the service. The Exultet will be chanted, scriptures of the saving deeds of God will be read, ending with the Renewal of Baptismal Vows and a special blessing of each other. All attendees except those with speaking parts will be asked to keep their audio muted throughout the service. Links for Zoom will be sent in the morning April 3.

Sunday, April 4, 10:30 AM, in-person under the oaks at St. Stephen's

Easter morning we will celebrate the Holy Eucharist, together, under the oaks at Church at 10:30 am. We will wear masks, be at a proper distance and follow the diocesan protocols. Please bring a bell to ring and a chair to sit on. The Rev. Tom Johnson will preach and the Rev. William Seth Adams will preside.
